The history of the Tecnifibre brand



1979

Creation of the brand

Thierry Maissant, a tennis enthusiast, quickly developed an ambition: to provide tennis players with products adapted to their needs and level. He co-founded Major Sport with former F1 driver Hermano da Silva Ramos in 1979.


1983

The first “Made in France” ropes

Tecnifibre created its first strings and revolutionized the market with a unique new technology: polyurethane. 100% of string production is still made in France today.


1985

Launch of the first stringing machine

In 1985, the brand began producing stringing machines, also "Made in France." This expertise in stringing allowed it to become the official stringer for numerous ATP tournaments.


1987

Tecnifibre becomes official stringer of Roland-Garros

As a sign of recognition for its expertise and the quality of its products, Tecnifibre was chosen by Roland-Garros to become the tournament's official stringer and string supplier. Thus, in contact with the world's best players, the teams continue to develop products to better meet their needs.


1998

Tecnifibre and the Roland-Garros ball

Tecnifibre strengthens its partnership with the French Tennis Federation by developing and distributing the official Roland Garros ball, which will be played worldwide for more than 10 years.


2001

Tecnifibre launches its first squash racket

Tecnifibre launched its first squash racket in 2001 with Frenchman Thierry Lincou, a Tecnifibre player from the very beginning. The collaboration between Thierry, a former world number 1, and Tecnifibre has lasted for over 20 years.


2004

Tecnifibre launches tennis rackets

After proving itself in squash, Tecnifibre is launching into tennis with two ranges of rackets dedicated to competitive players: the T-Fight for players looking for more control and the T-Flash, aimed at players wishing to generate more power.


2005

Launch of the first Tecnifibre ball

Tecnifibre designed its first ball in 2005. Since then, the brand has expanded its offering to include competition, training, and educational tennis balls. They are ITF and FFT approved.


2009

Launch of the "Next Generation" program

In 2009, Tecnifibre launched NEXT, an event program for which Serbian player Janko Tipsarevic has been the ambassador since 2009. The goal is to support the team's young players by going beyond simply providing them with good equipment. Thanks to Janko, the brand provides experiences that expose them to the highest level and shows them all the efforts required to become a top player.


2011

Janko Tipsarevic qualifies for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals

On October 2, 2011, after reaching the final in Eastbourne and a quarter-final at the US Open, Janko Tipsarević won his first career ATP tournament in Kuala Lumpur. This qualified him, with his Tecnifibre T-Fight XTC racquet, for the prestigious Masters tournament at the end of the season.


2013

Tecnifibre becomes a partner of the ATP World Tour

The brand has been supplying the official ATP World Tour rackets, strings, bags, and accessories since 2013. Through this partnership, Tecnifibre also becomes the official sponsor and stringer of the ATP World Tour Finals, until 2020.


2014

Mohamed El Shorbagy becomes world number 1 in squash

Mohamed El Shorbagy, Tecnifibre and Carboflex Airshaft ambassador, becomes one of the youngest world No. 1s thanks to his victory in the semi-finals of the 2014 US Open. He comes after two big names, Jahangir Khan and Jansher Khan, both world No. 1s at just 18 years old, and his compatriot Ramy Ashour, who became No. 1 at the age of 22.


2015

Launch of the “Young Guns on the Road” program

In 2015, Tecnifibre launched the first edition of the Young Guns Contest with a $50,000 prize up for grabs for the winner. The principle: four young players from Team Tecnifibre are selected and compete on the court (best ranking progression) and on social media (community growth, engagement, etc.). The first edition was won by Denis Kudla. He was followed the following year by a certain… Daniil Medvedev.


2016

Nour El Sherbini becomes world number 1 in squash

Having become the youngest squash world champion in 2015 in Malaysia, Nour El Sherbini officially became the best player in the world the following year.


2017

Lacoste acquires Tecnifibre

On August 31, 2017, Lacoste Holding formalized the acquisition of 80% of the capital of Major Sports, with control effective as of October 1 of the same year. The objective is to develop synergies between the Lacoste and Tecnifibre brands to design a range of technical products for Lacoste and strengthen Tecnifibre's international presence.


2018

Tecnifibre and Lacoste launch "Les Petits Crocos"

Lacoste and Tecnifibre are launching their program to detect and support young international talent, "Les Petits Crocos".

The program's first sponsor, Arnaud di Pasquale, has been replaced since 2021 by Sébastien Grosjean, former world No. 4 and current Davis Cup captain.


2019

Tecnifibre celebrates its 40th anniversary

To celebrate its anniversary and unveil its new brand identity, Tecnifibre is hosting the TF 40 party in Paris, attended by many athletes and long-time friends of the brand. Among them is Bob Sinclar, a well-known DJ and tennis enthusiast.


2020

Daniil Medvedev: Champion of the Finals

Daniil Medvedev achieved an incredible performance at the end of 2020 by winning the Rolex Paris Masters and Nitto ATP Finals double.


2021

Daniil Medvedev wins US Open, his first Grand Slam title

A historic event in two ways: 1st Grand Slam singles title for Daniil Medvedev and Tecnifibre!

2021

Polish champion Iga Swiatek joins Tecnifibre

The revelation of 2020 on the women's circuit after winning her first Grand Slam in Paris, Iga Swiatek is back, having started playing tennis competitively with a Tecnifibre racket.

An ambassador for the Tempo program, she won the WTA 1000 in Rome in the spring, winning an incredible final without losing a single game.


2022

Un14ue

Iga Swiatek is only 20 years old, and she is already the 28th tennis player to reach the world number 1 ranking. Her crowning achievement resonates today for Tecnifibre as a magnificent story of talent, intelligence, and confidence.

Joe Salisbury, a 29-year-old English player from Tecnifibre, also reached the number 1 world ranking in doubles.

Daniil Medvedev becomes world number 1, thus ending the eighteen-year monopoly of the "Big Four".


2022

Benjamin Tison, symbol of Tecnifibre's ambitions in padel

It's official: Benjamin Tison, the French number one in padel, ranked in the Top 100 of the World Padel Tour, has decided to continue his adventure with Tecnifibre to achieve his ambitious sporting goals. He has chosen to play with the Wall Breaker 375, of which he will be the ambassador.

This collaboration is a marker of the reinforced ambitions of Tecnifibre, present on the padel market since 2014.
