Daria Kasatkina has reached a milestone in 2018. The young 21-year-old Russian player is now part of the top10 and dreams of going higher. Interview

What do you think of your 2018 season?

It was good. We achieved a lot of goals we put with my coach, before the start of the season. I think the level of my game really developed, so I think it was really not bad!

Any particular moment you really appreciated during the season?

For sure, when I won the Kremlin Cup it was the most important moment for me in the season. And the semi-final of Indian Wells, it was one of the best match of the season

Can you describe your feelings after the title at the Kremlin Cup?

It was…. Pfff! I can’t even explain how I was feeling during those 5 minutes after I won, but it was definitely one of the best moments of my life so far.

Can you tell us about your coach, Philippe Dehaes?

He’s a legend! Now everybody is asking me: When Philippe is going on court, because you want to turn on the TV and listen to him. Now after every match, everybody asks me this! He has become a real legend, look at this guy, stand with his sunglasses there. I think he is more popular than me today, especially in Belgium where he has become a superstar

How did he manage to help you during those tough matches?

He helped me a lot for sure because, during the matches, when I’m really stressed, I need some, not even advice with the tennis part, but something emotional. And he know exactly what to do, I really appreciate that.

How has evolved your relationship with him during the year?

We are always making fun of each other. It’s like: we are 40% serious and 60% making fun. And for me this equilibrium is very important because I’m a person who needs to espace sometimes of the pressure and I’m happy that Philippe understands this and thinks the same way as me!

What are your goals for the next season?

In terms of ranking, my goal is to be Top5

And a Grand Slam ?

This is my goal since I took a racket for the first time in my life, so this is my goal every year!
