US Open night session: The Serbian Surprise.
2 de septiembre de 2010
Serbian Samurai Janko dealt a huge blow to American title hopes at the US Open as he surprised past champion and World No. 9
Andy Roddick in second-round action Wednesday night session at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Roddick had never lost at this stage of the US Open, and got off to a good start as he sealed the first set with one break of serve.
But the 44th-ranked Janko, who first time advanced beyond the second round at Flushing Meadows, came up with a break in the 12th game of the second set to level the match. He stepped up his game up another notch in the third set, dropping just five points behind his serve and delivering an impressive backhand passing shot on set point.
It marked Roddick's earliest exit at a Grand Slam tournament since 2008 at Wimbledon, also a loss to Janko! Tipsarevic, who next faces Gael Monfils after the Frenchman defeated Igor Andreev 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 earlier Wednesday, improved to a 8-10 record against Top 10 players.
This was his third Top 10 win in a Grand Slam tournament; he also defeated No. 6 Fernando Gonzalez in the third round at Wimbledon in 2007.
